IST Ground breaking

Walter and Leonore Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology (IST)

It’s official! The Caltech community is invited to join in the ground-breaking ceremony for the new IST building, that will be taking place on 12/7/07 at 11am. This is another momentous occasion in Caltech’s history: to be breaking ground on two buildings in the same year.

The location of the ceremony will be at the building site south of Avery House. There will be three entrance points:

  • North of CES & Watson
  • Moore Lab & Watson
  • Moore walk northwest corner of construction site.

The ceremony will include short presentations by the following people:

  • Wallis Annenberg, Vice President of the Annenberg Foundation
  • Jehoshua (Shuki) Bruck, Gordon and Betty Moore Professor of Computation and Neural Systems and Electrical Engineering
  • Frederick Fisher, Architect

Light refreshments will be served.

Over the next couple of months, the schedule of construction will proceed as follows:

  • Tree removal / relocation
  • Demolition
  • Setup for site trailers
  • Excavation
  • Layout of foundation

An updated construction site map has been included that highlights the fenced off areas and a rendering of the new building.
